Joe Stanco Memorial Scholarship for Honors Program

The Joe Stanco Memorial Scholarship for Honors Students was established by his friends at the Richland Campus in 2003 in memory of long-time Richland Campus employee Joe Stanco. Joe began at the Richland Campus in 1976 as a tutor, and he soon became tutor supervisor and then an adjunct English instructor. In 1992, he served as director of the Richland Honors Program, and in 1996 he became an administrator in the newly created Academic Enrichment division.

Joe was a good friend to all who needed him. He was a loving husband and father, a superb teacher, an inspired poet, and a genuinely nice guy. On June 5, 2002, we lost him to cancer. We miss the many things he did for all of us, keeping us grounded in what was truly important and encouraging us to discard the trivial. He was our sounding board and our moral compass, always pointing true north.
