Dorothy Gibson Blankenship Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Dorothy Gibson Blankenship Memorial Scholarship was established in 2013 by William and Stephen Blankenship in memory of their mother for all her many years of teaching and supporting education.

Dorothy Gibson Blankenship was a lifelong scholar who was dedicated to teaching and learning. Dorothy graduated with high honors from Highland Park High School in May of 1947. She attended Baylor University before later graduating from SMU with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. In the summer of 1965, she studied classics as a Fulbright Scholar at the American University in Rome. Dorothy subsequently pursued graduate coursework in classical studies at the University of Texas at Austin and education at Columbia University. For many years, Dorothy taught Latin and English at several high schools and community colleges in the Dallas area, including Highland Park, Ursuline Academy, Plano East, Skyline, as well as Richland Campus and Brookhaven Campus.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a student attending Dallas College during the period of the award
  • Major in Education
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • ESSAY REQUIRED
  • RECCOMENDATION/REFERENCE REQUIRED

This scholarship renews for the spring semester. To receive the spring portion, the recipient must maintain the above requirements. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
