Nathan Young Texas ProStart Culinary Arts Endowed Scholarship

The Nathan Young Texas ProStart Culinary Arts Scholarship was established in 2017 by the El Centro Campus Food and Hospitality Institute in memory of Nathan Young who died tragically in a car accident on September 23, 2017. Nathan started his culinary career in the ProStart Culinary Arts program at Byron Nelson High School before completing his post-secondary culinary training at El Centro, graduating in May 2017. Nathan was heavily involved in ProStart and attended every Texas competition he was able, presenting education sessions and working with the judges in the tasting room. He received frequent recognition for his culinary talent and hospitality spirit and will be an enduring example of what it means to be a professional in the food and hospitality industry.

Winners of the Texas ProStart State Competition will be awarded scholarships to attend Dallas College. Recipients must enroll at Dallas College the year following high school graduation in the credit AAS program in Culinary Arts or Baking/Pastry minimum of 12 credit hours, 1 time scholarship in the amounts below:

Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management competition winners
One time award of:

  • 1st place – $500
  • 2nd place – $350
  • 3rd place – $250
  • Must Major in Culinary Arts, or Bakery/Pastry
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours for the period of the award
