Marilyn Martin Memorial Scholarship

The Marilyn Martin Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of Marilyn Martin, a former employee at the Richland Campus. Marilyn began her academic career at Richland in 1981, then transferred to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. Subsequent to completing her Master’s Degree at Amber University, she returned to Richland to work in the Disability Services Office, serving as both Interim Director and Special Populations Advisor. An advocate for students with disabilities, Marilyn’s dedication inspired students, faculty, and staff alike. Marilyn understood well the additional life challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and made it her life work to encourage, advise, and inspire. Marilyn was also an avid reader, loving and respecting the printed word. She was concerned that the price of textbooks often placed a burden on strained student budgets and frequently assisted deserving students with book purchases. The scholarship is designed to continue this generosity by buying textbooks for students who are taking core curriculum courses. Marilyn always expressed gracious appreciation for any gift she received, large or small.
