Robert J. Rech Memorial Scholarship

The Robert J. Rech Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 in memory of Robert J. Rech by his daughter, Barbara Cadman. In spite of the fact that her father disagreed with the need for higher education for women, during the 1960’s, Ms. Cadman received a college degree, debt free. In addition, two of Ms. Cadman’s daughters took summer classes at the Mountain View Campus. The advantage of having them take summer courses gave them the opportunity to graduate from college, also free of debt. Ms. Cadman discovered a safety-deposit box containing 10 gold coins (2 for each one of Mr. Rech’s children), this revelation led Ms. Cadman to believe that this was her father’s method for disclosing to her he is pleased with her and apologizes that he at any point thought education for women was a waste of money. The Robert J. Rech Memorial Scholarship is intended to ease the financial burden of education costs and also encourage women, graduating high school seniors and/or college students attending the Cedar Valley Campus or Mountain View Campus who want to not only pursue higher education but to succeed thereafter.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must have a minimum GPA of 2.2
• Must be a high school graduate attending the Cedar Valley or Mountain View Campus
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours for the period of the award
• Must meet federal guidelines for financial need. Applicants must complete the entire FAFSA process by May 1st
  *Scholarship is open to everyone, however, preference will be given to female applicants so long as such preference does not significantly detract from Dallas College’s nondiscriminatory policies

Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the spring and summer scholarship. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
