Kay Clendenen Surgical Technologist Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Kay Clendenen Surgical Technologist Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2003 by the family of Kay Clendenen in memory and honor of her dedication to initiating, implementing, teaching, and directing the El Centro Surgical Technologist Program from 1976 to 1990. Her goal was to answer a need in the Dallas community for qualified Surgical Technologists and provide additional employment opportunities within the healthcare industry. It is also intended as a testament to her entire career in nursing, attending to the medical needs of others, from her graduation in 1959 to her death in 2002.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Major in Surgical Technology
  • Must be accepted and registered into the Surgical Technologist Program; be advancing through the program from fall to spring or spring to summer semester and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must have completed the five prerequisite courses for the Surgical Technology Program with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours at Dallas College before the period of the award
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be a diligent student who is trying to gain skills to make a better life for themselves and demonstrate they understand the health and well-being of the patient is the top priority in the healthcare industry.
  • Must meet federal guidelines for financial need. Applicants must complete the entire FAFSA process.
  • ESSAY REQUIRED

You’ll be considered for this scholarship in both the Fall and Spring semesters with one application per academic year. Please note, being awarded for the Fall semester doesn’t automatically mean you’ll receive it again in the Spring.
