Walt Collins Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Walt Collins Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of Walt Collins, an ordinary citizen who, when retired, was looking for some way to spend his time. One day he walked into the East Dallas Storefront (in the Asian community), and volunteered his time. He spent many hours and days and weeks helping where he was needed and getting other people interested in volunteering at the storefront. Mr. Collins continued his work even though he was dying of cancer, and was active as long as he could be. The scholarship was set up in his memory for students majoring in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice. Mr. Collins was given the J. C. Penney Golden Rule Award, and the United States Congress honored him with its national Citizen Award.
