Chesmar Teacher Scholarship

The Chesmar Teacher Scholarship, established by the Chesmar Foundation, is designed for Texas residents who are students pursuing a 4-year teaching degree at a Texas Community College to support their college education and a future career in teaching within Texas schools.

The scholarship is open to students within the Dallas College School of Education who are aspiring teachers. Dallas College will make a special effort to recruit employees of current partner ISD’s to enroll in Dallas College and to apply for this scholarship upon doing so.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Program of Study must include one of the following:
  • AAS Development/Early Childhood Education
  • AAT Early Childhood Education
  • AAT 4-8 (Generalist), EC-12 Special Education
  • Bachelor of Applied Science Early Childhood Education & Teaching
  • Enroll in 6 or more credit hours each semester (15 max)
  • Have a GPA of at least 2.5
  • Students must complete the FAFSA or TAFSA.
  • Preference will be given to students actively engaged in paid work-based learning opportunities aligned with the Dallas College Teacher Residency and/or Teacher Apprenticeship program pathways. These work-based experiences must take place within a Texas Public School District.
  • Preference will also be given to students who are current or recent employees of the School of Education’s partner ISDs.

*Award Amount: *Scholarship awards are prorated based on the student’s enrolled credit hours each semester (6-15 credit hours).

Recipient Requirements
The award intends to strengthen the educator pipeline throughout Texas.
Award recipients must sign a Letter of intent upon receiving the award, committing to teach for at least three years in partnering school districts after graduation and upon attaining the appropriate degree.

Renewal Requirements

  • This scholarship will automatically renew for the spring and summer semesters as long as you maintain the eligibility requirements. You must complete a new general scholarship application each academic year to be considered for this scholarship.
